Yamaha REFACE CP Portable Electric Piano and Vintage Keyboard Sound Engine, Synthesizer
Yamaha Reface keyboards are designed around the practical needs of contemporary musicians. The name of the series, “reface,” is a conflation of the idea of reimagining and the legacy of Yamaha’s many groundbreaking keyboard instrument interfaces. Among the innovations that is hearkens back to are the legendary Yamaha Combo Organ, DX7 and CS5 keyboards. This is the reface CP, which has as one of its chief orientations the thrilling electrified string pianos from the CP80. The reface series is small. Incredibly small. But unlike miniature keyboard instruments of the past, the reface touch is satisfying and expressive, and the sound is nothing short of spectacular. The reface family of keyboards features built-in speakers and is battery operable so you can create on the go. An aux line in allows you to play along with MP3 players or whatever other audio device you wish to use. Add MIDI and USB connectivity, and the preface’s capacity to interface with external devices is vast. Reface CP puts a van full of iconic 70s stage keyboards and vintage effects into a portable retro-styled package without sacrificing sound, playability or polyphony. Choose Tine, Reed, Clavi, Toy or classic Yamaha CP80 electric grand piano, then, enhance your sound using the built-in drive, modulation, delay and reverb effects.

… spent more time than is necessary playing with this stupid little (and well made) music machine I have spent more time than is necessary playing with this stupid little (and well made) music machine. Do yourself a favor and skip this purchase and buy something that is terrible so that you won’t be like me and waste your time composing angelic music, skip work, skip showering, skip brushing your teeth, have your teeth fall out, get fired and dumped because you are a lazy no-good hippie that makes incredible keyboard sounds that no one will pay you for because you don’t even leave the house…
By far one of the best portable keyboard instruments I’ve ever used By far one of the best portable keyboard instruments I’ve ever used. I got the CP and I don’t really need any effects for this since the onboard effects are excellent. I kind of wish Yamaha sold just a board with the effects from this on it. The keys are great quality for a keyboard instrument and the sensitivity is set so that it is pretty easy to hit the same note velocity, but not so sterile you lose dynamics. All of the different electronic piano sounds are great for what they are too (I…
Besides a couple of minor user interface issues, a solid useful tool. I love it’s sounds, functionality, construction/design and playability. The CP has a good weight to it, making it feel solid and durable, instead of light and delicate. The only issue I have is 1) they did not have to make the MiDI port so small it requires a seperate adapter(which creates one more opportunity for failure. 2) As someone who uses it as a sound generator, I am unable to use the auxilliary volume controls on my main piano, and instead I have to reach over to the CP whenever…
