I installed new heavier strings ( I used Jim Dunlop Irish Banjo 12-36), Tightened the head to 88-90 on a drum dial which is quite a bit tighter than what it came with, adjusted the the neck ( it was a bit rotated to the head) stuck a rolled up small towel under the rim rod behind the bridge and bingo a great playing and sounding tenor Banjo. different picks change the sound…
Nice banjo for the price. I’ve had mine for about a year and a half. I bought it because I wanted a tenor banjo that I could tune to the GDAE Irish standard, which ports over from mandolin fairly easily aside from the longer scale of course. Speaking of which, I do wish I had gone with a 17 fret banjo because 19 frets is quite a stretch finger wise. Still, probably good for me to get used to it.When I initially received it it was of course nowhere near playable condition…to be expected for an instrument…
