Tascam US-4×4 USB Audio/MIDI Interface with Microphone Preamps and iOS Compatibility
TASCAM’s US-4×4 combines great audio quality and ergonomic design for a powerful 4-in/4-out USB 2.0 interface. Four of TASCAM’s Ultra-HDDA mic/line preamps provide up to 57dB or gain with nearly inaudible noise and distortion specs. The audio design features high-performance, musical components like NE5532 op amps for rich sound quality without coloring the source. The US-4×4 is powered through its USB 2.0 connection or an optional power adapter. Driverless operation is possible for plug-and-play operation on Mac OSX and iOS devices like the iPad, and a simple driver adds ASIO compatibility for Windows. MIDI in and out are also included for connecting synths, drum machines, and controllers. The interface includes two DAW applications to choose from – both Cakewalk SONAR X3 LE and Abelton Live Lite 9. With solid audio specs, iOS compatibility, and an easy-to-read angled design, the US-4×4 is the ultimate 4-channel interface for home, project, and mobile studios.

Should’ve been called US-16×16 I had the impression that this unit would accept up to 16 analog inputs (8 microphones, 8 line/instrument inputs) and mix those into a maximum of 8 “channels” of up to 96kHz 24-bit audio over USB to the digital audio workstation (DAW) software on a computer. This impression was wrong: The unit will actually send *all* 16 separate inputs as separate channels over USB 2.0 to the computer/DAW!The “x08” in the product name apparently refers to the 8 analog outputs from…
Great headphone amplifier and overall audio quality, but horrendous WIndows drivers I had to return my unit to Adorama (love those guys, BTW), because on Windows 7 and 10, my US-16×08 would glitch out at all sample rates even if the CPU usage was low. I tried everything to make it usable, but was unsuccessful. This was having the computers on High Performance mode. I have never experienced those audio glitches with any other interfaces in my almost 17 years of computer music making. I couldn’t use it in church to record services or even at home to make music,…
Horrible driver and no tech support This is my first review after years of Amazon shopping, so that should tell you how bad of an experience Iâve had with the Tascam US-18×08…I have never experienced so many issues with an audio interface before. Between weird glitches like audio being pitched down for inputs to my PC not recogizing any audio devices because I selected it as my output, the Tascam US-16×08 has the worst driver for an audio interface Iâve used. I have to restart my computer and tascam…
