Schatten NR-2 Player Series Biscuit Bridge Resonator Pickup w/Jack
The Schatten NR-2 Player Biscuit Bridge Resonator Pickup is a really good sounding pickup that can be mounted quickly and easily to National style instruments. The NR-2 Player includes a standard chrome endpin jack that can be installed in the side or tailblock of the instrument.
The NR-2 Player is a passive pickup, no battery required. The output is sufficient to drive most amplifiers, but you may need a preamp or direct box if you are plugging into a PA system or mixer board, or running through effects pedals where a loss of signal can occur.
This pickup has been designed to operate properly and sound good without the use of a preamp when plugged into any ‘normal’ electric guitar amp. As with any pickup, the sound can be further enhanced and EQ’d with an outboard preamp. If you require the added ability to be able to plug directly into a P.A. or mixer on a regular or occasional basis and you don’t wish to have an on board endpin jack preamp, then you may wish to add a preamp or direct box to your pickup system.

The pickup was an easy install and the sound reproduction was good–not great but pretty good. The bass reproduction is a bit weak. However, it is not overly sensitive as is the case with a great many transducer pickups. I just do not think that anyone has yet to figure out how to amply reproduce the sound of a biscuit cone. I have some spider cone resonators and the Fishman Nashville pickup, works amazingly in them. I will be really happy when they can produce that sound for a biscuit…
