The gold standard (according to me, at least.) But noisier than gum rubber. “Back in the day,” (1980’s) this was the gold standard for practice pads, i.e. the type instructors recommended for practicing rudimental or orchestral snare. Since it’s more like a snare drum than the gum rubber pads, you can practice playing softer dynamics closer to the rim. It’s also very useful that it has a rim (most gum rubber pads lack it), so you can practice playing on the rim.
