The Oscar Schmidt Banjolele is a four stringed instrument with a small banjo type body and a fretted concert size ukulele neck that was very popular in the ’20s & ’30s. It features the distinctive sound of a banjo and the small scale tuning and playing style of a Ukulele. The instrument uses standard ukulele tuning of G-C-E-A.

Some people seemconfused about bridge location. The distance from the nut to the 12th fret &12th fret to the bridge should be the same. Oscar Schmidt Banjouke Gets the Job Done (with a Twang) This Oscar Schmidt is my first banjolele. I have been playing uke for a year. I had no idea how very different it would be. For starters, you have to set up the intonation. The movable bridge has to be accurate. You have to measure the distance from the nut to the middle of the 12th fret. Then you measure that same distance from the 12th fret to the banjolele head. That is where you put the bridge. Mark it with a sharpie or pencil.
