The Orange 35RT is a new breed of SS amp. I’ve been wanting for a long time for a solid state amp that does dirt well. I’ve had several amps – tube and solid state. To be honest – solid state has already gotten my go to nod for playing clean. I have a Roland Micro Cube Guitar RX and a Cube 40GX. Big sound + light weight + good price = Everything (well, almost) The features, price and packaging of this amp are attractive. I’ve been using a VOX modeling amp and had issues with noise: both artifacts from the digital modeling at higher gain, and plain old AC line noise. I decided to give this analog Orange a change. The clean channel is nice–completely noiseless and pleasant tone. The problem is the dirty channel. With gain at 75% or more you get a good heavy-metal type distortion. The problem is at lower gain.
