Great Accessory I built my Mastertone 20 years ago from parts and then had a local guitar builder design a resonator for it made out of brazilian rosewood. I ended up with a 5 string that’s very resonant, rich in harmonic tones and LOUD. As good as the tone is, there was a downside. For different sound, not for quiet Interesting gadget. What a trumpet mute does to a horn, this does to a banjo, namely, it changes the tone noticeably. I find it really doesn’t cut volume very much, though it does a little, but instead gives my playing a different quality or life. If you want quiet and have an open-back, just roll up an old t-shirt and stick it in the pot under the rod and call it good.
