The missing link… I bought my ’77 jazz bass just over a year ago and after several tweaks and upgrades I really liked it’s tone. However, I still didn’t love it. Like Meyatch, I think the tone of these things … Like Meyatch, I think the tone of these things leaves a little to be desired. My main strings are Rotosound roundwounds, which in my opinion have a more balanced sound with more grunt at the bottom end. These Fenders seem to have a bit of bloom in the upper mids. I’m waiting for them to dull out with steady use over time, hoping that bloom will go away.But, some perspective: First, no one in any audience will ever know the difference.
