The missing link… I bought my ’77 jazz bass just over a year ago and after several tweaks and upgrades I really liked it’s tone. However, I still didn’t love it. Like Meyatch, I think the tone of these things … Like Meyatch, I think the tone of these things leaves a little to be desired. My main strings are Rotosound roundwounds, which in my opinion have a more balanced sound with more grunt at the bottom end. These Fenders seem to have a bit of bloom in the upper mids. I’m waiting for them to dull out with steady use over time, hoping that bloom will go away.But, some perspective: First, no one in any audience will ever know the difference. very easy on old fingers and have a nice deep bass … I use these strings on all my bass guitars and have done so for years. (Fender Jazz and Precision basses, Ibanez, Epiphone Viola bass and my large acoustic bass.Unlike steel round wound strings, they are slick, don’t make any finger sliding noise, very easy on old fingers and have a nice deep bass sound.They are not made for “slap” bass playing although I can sort of get that sound by turning up the treble a bit.
