Sound great, look great – read the instructions! These look great, and as long as you follow correct string installation process you shouldn’t encounter any dead strings. I was pretty worried after reading the reviews so found some online videos that demo the procedure to cut properly. There are also instructions on the inside of the package explaining how and why you need to bend the string prior to cutting. They also had plenty of length on all 5 strings, so that alleviated the concern I had with the review with the short B string…
Beautiful looks indeed, G and D strings break easily, not a good choice if you want a lot of brightness/treble in your sound I bought these DR Black coated strings to put on my 5-string bass guitar to get that black-on-black menacing look on my black 5-string bass. That worked. It looks great on our band pictures. The sound of the coated strings is decent but you lose out on some treble and brightness so if you do a lot of funky stuff and soloing on the higher fret board it sounds like you’re using a old and tired string.
