D’Addario Half Round bass strings are wound with pure nickel, then precision ground, leaving the outer surface smooth and “semi-flat.” They retain the flexibility and many of the tonal characteristics of round wound strings. Our Half Round heat-treating process increases the brightness of the strings.

Very flat muffled sound These strings are exactly what they are supposed to be. Half Rounds. They are halfway in between Nickel roundwounds and flatwounds. They are a little sticky when new, but it doesn’t last very long. The tension is also in between flats and rounds, but closer to flats. I like the way they feel and also the sound. You can even slap on them and get some bright tones. The thing is that being in the middle makes them just that, neither flats nor rounds. It’s NOT a roundwound string with a flat feel…
