Great Kick Drum Mic! I purchased this mic to use on the kick drum at my church, and was pleasantly surprised. The sound leans more to the tone of a Beta 52 than a D112, as a matter of fact it sounds quite similar to a Beta 52 from memory, but I haven’t A/B’ed them.I got a great sound with the mic placed approximately halfway between the resonant and batter heads, pointed directly at the beater. I shouldn’t like these mics, but I do! These mics SOULD sound as cheap as they are. But they don’t! They keep surprising me with good results. They’re lightweight, flyable, clear, and cheap enough that a wild drummer taking them out with a backflip off the kick drum wouldn’t draw too many tears. I mostly use them as spot mics in combination with something more substantial, but I have trusted them as a main ORTF pair when in a pinch.
